Joseph Friedrich Gustav Binder was a German painter, he was Born in Lindenberg, 1898. Studied in Berlin. Taught at the National Art School in Saaarbrücken. After 1924, he worked as an independent commercial artist.

American Fauvism: Henry Lyman Saÿen

An inventive scientist and pioneering artist, H. Lyman Saÿen was one of the earliest Americans to adopt the principles of Fauvism, and one of the most committed.  He was captivated by the possibilities of color, by its ability not simply to represent emotions, but to embody them completely.  Ever the scientist, he developed theories of color vision, believing that individual’s perception of colors depended on the context in which they were viewed; paired with various hues, colors will register differently to the eye. To demonstrate this theory, he devised a rotating color wheel, which produced the effect of different colors based on their proximity to other colors and the speed with which the disc turned.

Emil Filla (4 April 1882 – 7 October 1953), a Czech painter, was a leader of the avant-garde in Prague between World War I and World War II and was an early Cubist painter.
Filla was a member of the group Osma (The Eight) in 1907–1908, which had commonalities with the Fauves and also had direct ties to the German Expressionist group Die Brücke. Important works by Filla from this period include Reader of Dostoevsky (1907) and Chess Players (1908). In 1909, he became a member of the Mánes Union of Fine Arts.
Beginning in 1910 he painted primarily in a Cubist style, strongly influenced by Picasso and Braque, and produced works such as Salome (1911) and Bathers (1912). He also began to paint many still lifes around that time. In 1911 he edited several issues of Volné smery, promoting Cubism and publishing reproductions of works by Picasso. After both readers and the leaders of Mánes reacted negatively, he and others withdrew from Mánes and founded Skupina výtvarných umelcu (the Group of Visual Artists), which was a Cubist-oriented group.
Around 1913, he and Otto Gutfreund, produced some of the earliest Cubist sculpture made anywhere. Before World War I he moved to Paris, but left for the Netherlands when war broke out. He returned to Prague after the war. During the 1920s, he further developed his version of Synthetic Cubism and rejoined Mánes. Like many Czech modernists, he was active in design as well as in painting; in 1925 he designed paintings on glass for the Czechoslovak Pavilion at the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Surrealist influence also began to show in his painting and sculpture, and he was a participant in Poesie 1932, an international exhibition in Prague that introduced Surrealism to the Czech public. He did not, however, become a Surrealist.

Charles H. Woodbury

Charles Herbert Woodbury (July 14, 1864—January 21, 1940), United States marine painter, was born at Lynn, Massachusetts.
He maintained a strong and consistent vision in his more than fifty years of professional life and became a master of compositions of the coast and sea. Woodbury’s many on-the-spot sketches and etchings produce a sense of motion through quick, sure-handed strokes. Seeing and understanding movement was fundamental to his art and teaching, and is reflected in his own maxim: “Paint in verbs, not nouns.” In the words of his son David, Woodbury "...painted what he saw, satisfied that what he saw was really there, all in proper relationship, checked and rechecked by endless reference to the real world".
In his later years he spent his winters in the Caribbean sailing from island to island painting watercolor studies of the beaches and town backed by dramatic mountains and clouds. Over a large part of his career he made some of the most expressive etchings of any American artist of his time, completing more than 500 plates and teaching many younger artists to express themselves in this medium. He died on January 21, 1940 in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
Woodbury engaged in over 100 solo exhibitions throughout his career, and was included in all of the major invitational and juried shows throughout the country. His work may be found currently in The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art among many others. more on wikipedia

Ghagelishvili's paintings are impulsive and very expressive. His brush rhythm sometimes feels lazy as if he is making fun of the authors who are trying to show off their technique. On his canvas he often deliberately leaves the casual contours, marked with a pencil that you can see under the paint and transforms his picture into a figurative element.

Chagelishvili is an artist in search of the lost space in his landscapes, where nature is not an accessory, decoration or background, but rather a part of history, a grand melody with a "voice of silence." All of a sudden the landscape motive becomes an abstraction. His color gamut is very rich and diverse and one can't help but being delighted with his paintings.

Bob Thompson (June 26, 1937 – May 30, 1966) was an American figurative painter known for his bold and colorful canvases, whose compositions were appropriated from the Old Masters. He was very prolific in his eight-year career, producing over 1000 works before his death in Rome, Italy in 1966. The Whitney Museum in New York mounted a retrospective of his work in 1998. He also has works in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States.

Domergue was born in Bordeaux and studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1911, he was a winner of the Prix de Rome.From the 1920s onward he concentrated on portraits, and claimed to be "the inventor of the pin-up". He also designed clothes for the couturier Paul Poiret. From 1955 until 1962 he was the curator of the Musée Jacquemart-André, organising exhibitions of the works of Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Goya and others.

Winifred Nicholson (21 December 1893 – 5 March 1981) was an English painter, a colourist who developed a personalized impressionistic style that concentrated on domestic subjects and landscapes. In her work, the two motifs are often combined in a view out of a window, featuring flowers in a vase or a jug.

She painted prolifically throughout her life, largely at home but also on trips to Greece and Scotland, among other places. Many of her works are still in private collections, but a number are in the Kettle's Yard art gallery, Cambridge, and several key works belong to Tate. One painting is believed to have hung at 10 Downing Street.

He took part in numerous editions of the Venice Biennale, beginning with the acceptance of his work for the 17th Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte della Città di Venezia in 1930, when he also visited Paris. Oscar Bluemner (June 21, 1867 – January 12, 1938), born as Friedrich Julius Oskar Blümner and since 1933, known as Oscar Florianus Bluemner, was a German-born American Modernist painter.

Often overlooked in his lifetime, Bluemner now is widely acknowledged as a key player in the creation of American artistic Modernism, with better-known colleagues such as Georgia O'Keeffe and John Marin.
