Claude Venard was a highly individual post-Cubist painter known for his still-lifes, landscapes, and eccentric portraits. In the late 1930s, he exhibited with the Forces Nouvelles, a group that rejected the avant-garde in favour of a return to traditional craftsmanship, and included the artists Pierre Tal-Coat and André Marchand. Even early works, such as La Poêle dans L’Atelier (1940) presage Venard’s imminent turn to Cubism: the overall flatness of the painting, its variations in scale, and the artist’s use of basic geometric forms like rectangles, cylinders, and cones are all representational strategies which would be useful later in his career. Venard soon distanced himself from the Force Nouvelles, and began developing his own vibrant, energetic Post-Cubist style, characterized by a rich impasto and an extremely varied color palette. 

His Still Life (1955–56) featuring highly stylized fish against a boldly patterned background illustrates the increasingly abstract turn his work took throughout the 1950s. 

Later in his career, Venard added still more texture and volume to some of his works by using heavy applications of oil, or mixed media such as cardboard and sand.

Kenneth Blom is a Norwegian painter known for his abstract and semi-abstract works. He was born in 1967 in Bergen, Norway and studied art at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts. Blom has exhibited his work widely in Norway and internationally, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections. His paintings are known for their bold, expressive brushwork and their vibrant, saturated colors, and he often incorporates elements of collage and mixed media into his work. In addition to his painting practice, Blom has also worked as a teacher and a curator.

Yves Brayer (French, 1907-1990)

Yves Brayer (18 November 1907 – 29 May 1990) was a French painter known for his paintings of everyday life. He was born in Versailles. He studied in Paris at the academies in Montparnasse starting in 1924, and then at the École des Beaux-Arts with Lucien Simon.

Although he was independent and never belonged to a school, he was friends with Francis Gruber, the founder of the Nouveau Réalisme school.

He first exhibited in the salons of 1927, and then traveled to Spain, where the masterpieces in the Prado Museum had a profound influence on him. After a stay in Morocco, he went to Italy, where he won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1930.

He settled back in Paris in 1934, organizing his first solo exhibition. He remained in occupied Paris during World War II.

a Swedish artist: Stig Morin (b.1943)

Stig Morin is a Swedish painter and illustrator known for his abstract and semi-abstract works. He was born in Sweden and studied art at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Morin has exhibited his work widely in Sweden and internationally, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections. His paintings are known for their bold, expressive brushwork and their vibrant, saturated colors, and he often incorporates elements of collage and mixed media into his work. 

In addition to his painting practice, Morin has also worked as an illustrator for books, magazines, and other publications.

Edouard Vysekal (1890 - 1933)

Edouard Vysekal was a Czech painter who was active in the first half of the 20th century. He was born in 1890 in the town of Kladno in the Czech Republic, and studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Vysekal was known for his landscape paintings, which often depicted the countryside and small towns of his native Czech Republic. He was also interested in still lifes and portraiture, and his work often had a strong sense of atmosphere and mood.

Vysekal exhibited his work widely in Czechoslovakia and internationally, and his work can be found in many public and private collections. He was a member of the Society of Czech Fine Artists and the Mánes Union of Fine Arts, and was recognized for his contributions to the art world with a number of awards and honors. Vysekal died in 1933 at the age of 43.
