George Hendrik Breitner (Rotterdam, September 12, 1857 - Amsterdam, June 5, 1923) was a Dutch painter, famous for his view of Amsterdam city life. His work is related to that of the 'Eighties', a group of artists with great influence on the Dutch art world during the eighties of the nineteenth century. Painters like Isaac Israels, Willem Witsen, and poets like Willem Kloos and Louis of Deyssel belonged to his circle.

Hendrik Johannes Weissenbruch (born Jan Hendrik on 19 June 1824 in The Hague – 24 March, 1903 in The Hague) was a Dutch painter of the Hague School. He came from an artistic family, his father he painted in his free time and collected art on a small scale. Among his collection were works by Andreas Schelfhout and Bartholomeus van Hove. His cousin Jan was a well-known painter of romantic city views, and a brother, an uncle, and two cousins worked in the graphic arts. He also gave lessons to his son Willem Johannes,Theophile de Bock and Victor Bauffe.

Cornelis Theodorus Maria van Dongen (1877 – 1968), usually known as Kees van Dongen or just Van Dongen, was a Dutch painter and one of the Fauves. He gained a reputation for his sensuous, at times garish, portraits. Kees van Dongen was born in Delfshaven, then on the outskirts, and today a borough, of Rotterdam. He was the second of four children in a middle-class family. In 1892, at age 16, Kees van Dongen started his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, working with J. Striening and J.G. Heyberg. During this period from 1892 to 1897, van Dongen frequented the Red Quarter seaport area, where he drew scenes of sailors and prostitutes. He met Augusta Preitinger at the Academy, a fellow painter.
