Móricz ‘Maurice’ Góth (Hungarian , 1873-1944)

Móricz "Maurice" Góth (1873-1944) was a Hungarian painter known for his portraits and landscapes. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany and later traveled extensively throughout Europe, particularly Italy and France. Góth was a member of the Nagybánya artists' colony in Hungary, which was known for its plein-air painting style and use of bright colors. Góth's work is characterized by his attention to detail and his ability to capture the mood and atmosphere of his subjects. He was a successful artist during his lifetime and exhibited his work widely in Hungary and abroad.

From 1906 he was a student of Bertalan Székely, Ede Balló and Pál Szinyei Merse at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts for two years. From 1907 to 1908 he studied at the École de Beaux-Arts in Paris, where attended the class of Ferdinand Cormon. He went on study tours in Italy, Austria, and Germany and worked in the USA and Holland. After his return he became a member of the Cennini Society, the Munkácsy Guild and the Society of Hungarian Portrait Painters.
