Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985)

A Widow (1943), oil on canvas 91.4 x 73 cm

Jean Dubuffet was a French painter, sculptor, and artist who was active in the 20th century. He is known for his association with the Art Brut movement, which sought to promote the work of self-taught or outsider artists. Dubuffet's work was characterized by a rough, gestural style and a focus on primal, primal emotions and experiences. He often used unconventional materials such as tar, sand, and cement in his art, and was interested in depicting the human form in a raw, primitive manner. Some of Dubuffet's notable works include "Portrait of Charles de Gaulle," "The Group of Four Trees," and "L'Hourloupe."
