Euan Uglow (British, 1932-2000)

Euan Uglow (1932-2000) was a British painter known for his precise, highly-detailed figurative works. He was associated with the London School of Painting and Drawing, which he co-founded, and his work was often compared to that of the French painter Henri Fantin-Latour. Uglow's paintings are characterized by their carefully-constructed compositions and precise rendering of form, and he is known for his meticulous working process and his use of grids to map out the compositions of his works. Uglow was also interested in the underlying mathematical and geometric principles of art, and he often incorporated these principles into his paintings.
Despite his technical mastery and critical acclaim, Uglow remained a relatively private individual and did not achieve widespread fame during his lifetime. However, his work has gained wider recognition in the years since his death and is held in the collections of several major museums around the world.
