Lyrical abstraction: Olivier Debré (1)

Olivier Debré (French 1920-1999)

Light Poplars (Peuplier clairs), 1959

Olivier Debré is considered to be one of the most important painters in French abstract art. His work has been referred to as “lyrical abstraction” or “fervent abstraction” because his paintings, which have been exhibited throughout Europe, capture the emotion created by a landscape.
Debré died at the age of 79 in 1999.

Je me défends d’être un paysagiste, je traduis l’émotion qui est en moi devant le paysage, mais pas le paysage.
