Barbara Hepworth was a British sculptor who was active in the first half of the 20th century. She was born in 1903 in Wakefield, England, and studied art at the Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. Hepworth was a member of the British modernist movement, which sought to create a new, abstract form of sculpture that was inspired by the natural world.

Hepworth is best known for her abstract sculptures, which were made of materials such as marble, bronze, and wood. She was interested in the relationship between form and space, and her sculptures often consist of simple, geometric shapes that are arranged in a way that creates a sense of movement and balance. Hepworth's work was exhibited widely in the United Kingdom and abroad, and she is considered one of the leading figures in the history of modern sculpture. Hepworth died in a tragic accident in 1975 at the age of 72.
