Josef Šíma (Czech, 1891-1971)

Josef Šíma was a Czech painter and printmaker known for his landscape and portrait paintings. He was born in 1891 in Příbor, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) and studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Šíma was a member of the Manes Association of Fine Artists in Prague and exhibited his work widely in Czechoslovakia and internationally. His work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the National Gallery in Prague and the Moravian Gallery in Brno. Šíma's paintings are known for their subtle, muted colors and their detailed, realistic brushwork, and he often depicted the landscapes and people of Czechoslovakia. He died in 1971 at the age of 80.
