Robert Nelson is an American painter and printmaker known for his abstract and semi-abstract works. He was born in 1930 in Los Angeles, California and received his BFA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1952. Nelson has exhibited his work widely in the United States and internationally, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Nelson's paintings and prints are known for their bold, expressive brushwork and vibrant, saturated colors, and he often incorporates elements of collage and mixed media into his work. In addition to his painting and printmaking practice, Nelson is also an art historian and critic, and has written extensively on the art of the 20th century.
