Edwin Holgate was a Canadian painter and printmaker who was active in the early 20th century. He was born in 1892 in Quebec and studied at the Art Association of Montreal, where he was taught by other notable Canadian artists such as James Wilson Morrice and Maurice Cullen. Holgate went on to study in Europe, first at the Académie Julian in Paris and later at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
Holgate's work was primarily figurative and often focused on landscapes and rural scenes. He was known for his use of bright, bold colors and expressive brushwork, which gave his paintings a lively and energetic quality. He was also interested in the graphic arts and produced a number of prints and illustrations. Holgate exhibited his work widely in Canada and internationally, and his work can be found in numerous public and private collections.
