Hilma af Klint was a Swedish painter and pioneer of abstract art. She was born in 1862 and began her career as a painter in the 1880s, working in a representational style. However, she became interested in spiritualism and theosophy, and began to explore more abstract forms of expression in her work.
Af Klint was a member of the "Five," a group of artists who worked together and were interested in exploring the spiritual dimensions of art. She produced a large body of abstract paintings and drawings, many of which were not shown to the public during her lifetime. Af Klint believed that her abstract work had a spiritual purpose and was intended to be seen only by a select few. It was not until the 1980s that her work began to receive wider recognition, and today she is considered a pioneering figure in the history of abstract art.
