Baby (1966)
Emma Amos is an American painter and printmaker known for her abstract and figurative works that explore issues of race, gender, and identity. She was born in 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia and received her BFA from the University of Cincinnati in 1961. Amos has exhibited her work widely in the United States and internationally, and her work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Studio Museum in Harlem in New York City. Amos's paintings and prints are known for their bold, expressive brushwork and bright, vibrant colors, and she often incorporates elements of collage and mixed media into her work. In addition to her painting and printmaking practice, Amos is also an activist and advocate for social and political change.
