Irving Kriesberg (American, 1919-2009)

Irving Kriesberg was an American painter and printmaker known for his abstract expressionist works. He was born in New York City in 1919 and studied art at the Art Students League and the New School for Social Research. Kriesberg was a member of the New York School, a group of artists working in the mid-20th century who were known for their gestural and expressive brushstrokes and their use of abstract forms and color. Kriesberg exhibited his work widely in the United States and Europe, and his work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Kriesberg died in 2009 at the age of 90.
